Here are some of my associations with “Dreams” on this Monday of the week between Christmas and the New Year of 2016:
- This time of year feels particularly dream-like to me,
- I think and talk a lot about dreams, at work and elsewhere.
- One of my favorite books is Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill, about the amazing healing that happens when people share dreams in groups.
- Even though I’ve been living the dream of blogging daily for (almost) three years, I’ve written only four previous posts with “Dreams” in the title (here, here, here, and here).
- When I got my first cardiac pacemaker at age ten in 1963, my being alive and well over fifty years later was just a dream.
- I’ve had several dream jobs — including creating the recruitment video for Berklee College of Music in the 1990s — but nothing more satisfying than my current work as a psychotherapist.
- When I was 44 years old, I consciously gave up the dream of ever having a child.
- One month later, I found out I was pregnant with my dreamy son, Aaron.
- Two nights ago I had a dream when I was falling from a great height to certain death, but because I knew I was dreaming, I wasn’t afraid, at all.
- If a dream comes true and I get a call-back when I try out for The Voice on February 21, I’m going to sing Mad World, which has this line:
The dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had.
Because I was dreaming so much yesterday, I forgot to take many photos. Which of these images seems the most dream-like, to you?
It’s always a dream for me that people feel safe enough to share their dreams, here and elsewhere.
Dreamy thanks to all who helped me create this post and to all those who read it, here and now.
What a dreamy comment! Many thanks.
Well, since I’ve just gotten some coloring books, I’d have to say the first image of a coloring book represents my Dreams … above all else Peace. When you said the best dream is of dying, I understand perfectly for in having my NDE I know dying is the highlight of our life. I did NOT want to come back! It’s been a while since I really let myself dream, Ann, being just so busy caring for others. I’ve accepted that if as far as I get with my photography and writing is my blog, then I shall have succeeded. It’s not about fame and fortune to me, no. It’s about how many people you touch with Love and Compassion and friendship while we are still with breath in our bodies. Peace to you, Ann. Love, Amy ❤
Peace and love back at you, Amy! ❤
Ah…the falling dream. Had it all the time as a child. Life/family was out of control. It made sense to me at the time, and now. They say it is among the most common of dreams.
Love the coloring book. My daughter started using them a while back. Calming therapy. 💖
Love your calming comment, Van. ❤
I’ll have to look for one of those coloring books. But the “dreamy” photo to me is the bag of what looks like dough or clay. Oh the possibilities!
I love possibilities too, Janey, as well as this dreamy comment. Let me know if you want me to reveal what that was.
Yes please!
It is APPLE PIE BREAD, Janey, from a wonderful local bakery. Absolutely delicious. Thanks for your dreamy curiosity.
Mmm, sounds fab!
I am so glad that your best dreams have come true, Ann — especially that you had Aaron and have been healthy enough to be with him as he grew into a fine young man.
Thank you for another dream of a comment, Maureen.
It’s interesting to me that we use the word “dreams” for both the strange worlds our minds create in our sleep and our wishes. What I wonder, though, is what it says about me that I often dream I’m a completely different person. I’ve even changed genders in my sleep.
Even before Freud dreams were understood to be wish fulfillment but I think there’s more to dreams than that.
Chris, my first guess is that those dreams reflect what an accepting, flexible, and creative person you are. My next guess is that those who know you would agree with that interpretation.
Dreamy post, Ann! I’m going to check out that book.
Dreamy, Sunny!
I ordered the book today! Thanks for the recommendation.
Let us know how it affects your thoughts and dreams!
I dream of a world where the chicken can cross the road without having its motives questioned. 😉 Cheeky eh, Ann? But the deeper meaning is a valid one for me. ❤

I dream of a similar world, Diana. ❤ xxoo
Like this. Going to rebog if that’s okay. Thanks.
Like that you liked it and wanted to reblog it!

Great post from annkoplow.wordpress.com.
A dream come true! Thanks to you.
Whenever I want you, all I have to do is dream …
Hope this tune sticks in your head like it is in mine now Ann!
Whenever I want your thoughts, Val, all I have to do is go to WordPress. That is very dreamy, too.
Ann,
When I first began coaching high school girls volleyball, one night I dreamed that our school’s team,( which was at that time the doormat of the league), had won a championship. In my dream, the school jersey’s worn were of our school, but, strangely, the players had no faces. Four years hence from that dream our team would win its first state championship. The faces had changed but the dream became reality.

Thanks for sharing this dream, Alan!
Thanks for reminding me of the “Mad World” song from way back. It was a favourite of mine but I had forgotten most of the lyrics and back then I didn’t have a computer to listen and read the lyrics at the same time. I have one story I wrote a while back that was a dream and I woke in the middle of the night and wrote it and in the morning I didn’t have any idea where it came from until a bit later. http://wp.me/p6LpSr-o
Thank you for sharing this comment and the story inspired by your dream.
I have checked out those adult colouring books but don’t think they are for me
It’s a dream, for me, that my blog is for you, Joanne.

There’s a dream for you.

“TO DREAM….THE MOST INTERESTING DREAM….!”
Thanks for this most interesting and dreamy reblog, Jonathan!
May all your dreams this New Year be interesting ones—if you can stand it! 😀
I can stand it! Thanks, Jonathan.
This post was a dream to read Ann. I have done dream work as a therapist and as a hobby. I have organized and participated in a few ongoing dream groups. I also blog on my dreams from time to time.
Are you familiar with the work of Jeremy Taylor? He is a great teacher and author on dream work.
take care and happy New Year!
Linda
YES to everything in this comment, Linda. ❤
PS Good luck on the Voice!
Your support is like a dream!
PPS, I thought the book you cited sounded familiar and I followed the link. Guess that answers my question 😀
We are both Jeremy Taylor dream-work fans! Thanks, Linda.
I love dreams! Many of mine are either movies, or kind of prophetic. Uber cool. 🙂
Pretty awesome about your son. That seems to happen with adoptive parents, too – they find themselves expecting a biological child shortly after adopting. It almost seems like the brain is more involved in the conception process than we can fathom. 🙂
I love this dreamy, awesome, and brainy comment.
Your story about your pregnancy exemplifies the truism that we often find our dreams when we stop looking.
Thanks for your dreamy insight, Derrick.
Scotch tape dispenser is my choice. Oh the collage potential in a roll of tape.
I love your dreamy comments, JoHanna!
I hope this comment pops up in October 2016! Since you and I were on the same page for our blog of “Dreams” the other day, I’ve decided to dedicate the month of October to Dreams, and all the mystery and fun around it. I’d like to repost this post. May I?
