Day 1404: Bloody Hell

Greetings from Tufts Medical Center. The bleeding from Wednesday’s incision has been relentless. It’s been a bloody hell for me, my boyfriend/nurse Michael, and my clothing.

I just took this photo as I am waiting for them to start an IV and re-suture the incision.

Bloody hell! Which look do you prefer?

  1. Oh Dear Ann, it is a bloody mess isn’t it!
I like the look just the way it is. 😀
I hope the bleeding stops and the healing begins very soon. 🙏

    • It was a bloody mess, Val, but now that’s over! I probably won’t be able to wear that same look again because I left the yellow non-skid slipper/sock at the hospital. And I believe the healing has already begun. ❤

  2. Good luck! Fingers crossed but I don’t think this will be a problem once they’ve had another go.

    • You were right! While yesterday was a bloody hell they had another go and made today more like heaven. Thanks for the luck and comment.

  3. Oh bloody hell! How awful that your incision won’t stop bleeding. You’ve been though bloody hell enough so stop already will ya, bleed, and behave? Just to have others to have something to talk about why don’t you just wear these two just like these? If not, I like the bloody hell jazzier one on your left leg. Get well soon, dear Ann!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

  4. Although I prefer the one on the left–the design of hospital socks leaves much to be desired–my real preference is for the phrase “Bloody hell!” I was born an Anglophile and years of British comedy had acquainted me with “bloody” as a curse so the first time I met an English person I asked him, “What’s the equivalent of ‘bloody’ in American?”
He was very amused and told me it was slightly stronger than “damn”.

  5. Get well soon! Hope they plug the leak and patch you up.:-)

  6. I like the mix of those socks ! Stop bleeding. ❤️ Hugs.

  7. well I would prefer the seamed stockings in high heels look myself but since that wasn’t a choice I’ll go with the left leg since it’s more colourful.

  8. Ann, I am sending thoughts of peace and energy. I wish I could send actual medical grade crazy glue, because it is pretty worrying when someone who is on blood thinners bleeds when they aren’t supposed to. Please, please update us as you can.

As far as the stockings go, I like the patterned one but they do go well together in a mismatched sort of way. Is this the sort of thing the hospital wants you to wear or is it your ensemble for open mic? (Do you think you might rest tonight and catch the next open mic?)

    Hugs to you and Michael

    • Hugs to you, Maureen. The left sock was chosen by me and the right one was chosen by the hospital. Not sure if I’m going to Open Mic night tonight but I won’t be wearing the yellow sock — I had to leave that at the hospital.

  9. Bloody hell, for sure!

  10. Oh the brightly patterned stocking to be sure! And mega-blessings for a speedy cessation of bloody leakage!

  11. I’m sorry it’s not going so well. Hopefully today will be better. As to which sock? I think the one on the left. More material there to work with if you’re bored and looking for story telling inspiration.

  12. Bloody Hell is right! OK body — let’s get your act together! We have blogs to write and read, places to go, pictures to take. No time for bleeding mishaps. I myself love the mismatched look — but is that one loooonnnng patterny sock or a loooonnnnng legging matched with a different mismatch sock? I love how you make me dizzy…

    • I believe there will be no more bleeding mishaps after they redid the sutures today.

The left one is a looooonnnnng patterny sock which I bought last month when I had places to go. The right one is a hospital– issued sock, designed to prevent slips and falls. I love how you comment, Claudia.

  13. Those are some fancy ones on the left! Hope all goes well!

  14. Oh dear, I’m so sorry about the bleeding, Ann! By the time you read this, I hope its been taken care of. I love the left sock! The colors, design and overall BoHo feel appeal more to me than the yellow “meh” sock. Sending calming, healing, happy thoughts your way! ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Your hope has come true, Sunny. They stopped the bleeding and I’m home. The left sock is mine and the right one belongs to the hospital.

  15. Hope you are better soon! I like both – the left is visually interesting and the right is tactilely interesting – you have the best of both worlds. 🙂

  16. Neat pair, though not too keen on the maggoty things on the yellow ones! Take care and wishing you a speedy recovery.

    • The maggoty things are anti-skids on bloody hospital socks. Thanks so much for your neat comment and I believe that I am on my way to recovery.

      • Ha, the support hose I was given were green. I wanted blue to go with my smurf impression but they were the wrong size. Snazzy left foot though! 🙂

  17. Amanda Curtin

Love the socks. They look comfortable and fun to look at. The yellow feels like sunshine. I hope they are able to stop the bleeding and get you better soon. I will keep sending reiki.

    • Thanks for the reiki. I think it bloody helped. I agree that yellow feels like sunshine, even though that was a hospital-issued sock. I believe my medical team stopped the bleeding. Yay! I am bloody grateful to be home and to know you, Amanda!

  18. Just checking in to see how you are.

  19. I think considering the bloody hell things that are going on, a crazy colourful look, is best. Hope you get over this speed bump soon. Pretty exasperating. You may stomp around gently.

  20. Maria Talbott

Good grief. Glad to hear they fixed it.

  21. Bloody hell that is not what we want to hear, I do like the left sock just so you know but hope all the bleeding is a thing of the past

  22. I was going to choose the one on the left — because the yellow wouldn’t hide stains quite so well.

From the comments I see that it’s stopped — oy vey! You don’t need any of this. Glad it’s stopped. Cheers to your healing.

  23. Bloody hell, I prefer the non skid socks!

  24. Oh Anne!
You must take in to consideration – medical staff are just normal people. They need steady hands to perform operations. You’ve frightened the bloody life out of them wearing those socks. When they recover, all will be well, just like the Hills below.

    A Dark and Stormy Night

Bob Hill and his new wife Betty were vacationing in Europe … as it happens, near Transylvania. They were driving in a rental car along a rather deserted highway. It was late at night and raining very hard with thunder and lightning.

Bob could barely see the road in front of the car.

Suddenly, the car skids out of control! Bob attempts to control the car, but to no avail! The car swerves and smashes into a tree.

Moments later, Bob shakes his head to clear the fog.
Dazed, he looks over at the passenger seat and sees his wife unconscious, with her head bleeding! Despite the rain and unfamiliar countryside, Bob knows he has to get her medical assistance. Bob carefully picks his wife up and begins trudging down the road. After a short while, he sees a light. He heads towards the light, which is coming from a large, old house.

He approaches the door and knocks.

A minute passes and a small, hunched old man opens the door. Bob immediately blurts, “Hello, my name is Bob Hill, and this is my wife Betty. We’ve been in a terrible accident, and my wife has been seriously hurt. Can I please use your phone?”

“I’m sorry,” replied the hunchback, “But we don’t have a phone. But my master is a doctor; come in, and I will get him!”

Bob brings his wife in. An older man comes down the stairs. “I’m afraid my assistant may have misled you. I am not a medical doctor; I am a scientist. However, it is many miles to the nearest clinic, and I have had a basic medical training. I will see what I can do. Igor, bring them down to the laboratory.”

With that, Igor picks up Betty and carries her downstairs, with Bob following closely. Igor places Betty on a table in the lab. Bob collapses from exhaustion and his own injuries, so Igor places Bob on an adjoining table.

After a brief examination, Igor’s master looks worried.
“Things are serious, Igor. Prepare a transfusion.”

Igor and his master work feverishly, but to no avail , and Bob and Betty Hill both passed away.

The Hills’ deaths upset Igor’s master greatly. Wearily, he climbs the steps to his conservatory, which houses his grand piano. For it is here that he has always found solace. He begins to play, and a stirring, haunting melody fills the house.

Meanwhile, Igor is still in the lab tidying up. His eyes catch movement, and he notices the fingers on Betty’s hand twitch, keeping time to the haunting piano music. Stunned, he watches as Bob’s arm begins to rise, marking the beat! He is further amazed as Betty and Bob both sit up straight! Unable to contain himself, he dashes up the stairs to the conservatory.

He Bursts in and shouts to his Master,

    “Master, Master”

“The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music!”

    I am Soooooo Sorry…..

  27. I read your reply to Val and am glad to read that you appear to be on the mend. May your wound heal properly and quickly.

  28. I’m glad you are mending, NOW. I prefer the looks you choose over any body else choosing for you. ❤

  29. how dreadful Ann! I like the look on the left and seeing as you left the yellow there- left it is!
