In my therapy groups, I often witness people expressing gratitude and, sometimes, doubt about belonging there.
My experience is that most humans be longing to have a sense of belonging.
.
Here’s what I find when I search for belonging on YouTube:
.
I look forward to the comments that are belonging together, below.
Thanks to all who allow for the possibility that they are belonging here, including YOU!
I do think the human quest is all about belonging and a sense of connection
I connect with you about this, beth.
As a girl, I found a sense of belonging in my local Girl Scout Troop. In my second marriage, I found a sense of belonging in the Door County, WI chapter of NOW, and a few years later, when I walked into the Blue Moon Tavern in Seattle, I immediately knew I belonged there. I came to feel that same sense of being in the right place among friends whenever I found myself at a Grateful Dead show, and in my “declining” years, I have finally found a place of belonging in my own birth family. And now, living with my only son, I am surrounded by friends AND family!
It’s wonderful to read about all the ways that you belong, Barbara.
When I had my first computer, before there was an internet as we know it, there were local bulletin boards where people with modems could log in and post messages. When I started doing that someone sent me a welcome message. After I’d become a regular user every time I saw a new person’s name I’d send them a welcome. I wanted them to know that they belonged. I don’t always know I belong but helping others feel welcome helps.
You definitely belong, Chris.
Belonging is a bond where/ with whom one feels at home.
A nice definition of belonging. Thank you.
