Day 1575: Books

Yesterday, not knowing  it was World Book Day, 2017, I took several photos of books,.

When I was younger, I was constantly reading  books. These days, I read more blogs than books. Is there  a World Blog Day on the books? There was one, five years ago, according to Face Book.

Here are some quotes about books from books:

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”  — Jane Austen

“Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.” — Groucho Marx

“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.” — Lemony Snicket

“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.” — Haruki Murakami

“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn’t happen much, though.” — J.D. Salinger

There are 3,000 quotes about books at goodreads.com. I am stopping at five quotes about books from books, because I don’t want today’s blog to be a book.

Here are other photos I took on World Book Day:

Here‘s a previous blog post on the books, where I wrote new lyrics for “You’ve Got it Bad, Girl” from Stevie Wonder’s Talking Book.

This girl could write a book about how thankful I am for all who help me blog every day and — of course! — for you. Rather than wait for that book, though,  I’ll end with two more pictures from World Book Day.

Day 1559: Good Advice

Just now, when I searched my own posts for “Good Advice,” I got this message:

NOTHING FOUND

So, if you were looking for good advice between January 1, 2013 and April 7, 2017, it might have been advisable to look elsewhere.

Let’s see if we can find any good advice here, today.

Thanks for that good advice, Ocean!

Here’s more good advice:

  • Enjoy the journey as best you can.
  • Throw away things you don’t need.
  • Do more of what helps.
  • Do less of what doesn’t help.
  • Spend time with people you like.
  • Avoid those who hurt you.
  • Take a deep breath.
  • Make noise.
  • Accept all your feelings.
  • Show up.
  • Be gentle.
  • Tell the truth.
  • Be in the moment.
  • Use all your senses.
  • Access your wisdom.
  • Let go of worry, fear, and shame.
  • Trust yourself.
  • Love freely.
  • Care less about what other people think.
  • Communicate clearly and directly.
  • Move.
  • Stop and smell the roses.
  • If there aren’t any roses around, stop and see my latest photos.

Day 1546: How to decide

How to decide how to start this post?

HOW TO DECIDE

  • Explore all your options.
  • Look at the pros and cons of all your different options.
  • Listen to others who have relevant wisdom.
  • Trust your gut.
  • Be logical.
  • Follow your heart.
  • Look for signs from the universe.
  • Pay attention to your dreams.
  • Flip a coin and see whether you want to flip it again.
  • Check your comfort level at each stage of the process.
  • Realize that even a “wrong” decision is not the end of the world.

How do you decide?

How to decide which photos from yesterday I should include here?

How to decide which music to share?

Here‘s a song about how to decide from Into the Woods:

How to decide how to thank all who helped me create todays’ post and — of course! — YOU?

Day 1505: The Year of the ______

It’s very early in this ____ year to know what 2017 is going to be the year of.  Nevertheless, this _____ post is going to give it the old _____ try.

2017, according to the Chinese horoscope, is The Year of the Rooster, also know as The Year of the Cock, Chicken, or Bird.

img_8803

img_8806

Because we’re looking for a new place to live in 2017, it’s also The Year of the Real Estate Agent.

img_8807

That’s the hard-working Jane C. Hoffmann, standing in front of a house in Winthrop.  Jane knows I want 2017 to be The Year of the Water View.

img_8804

img_8805

I’m not sure if 2017 is going to be The Year of the Condo or The Year of the House or if it’s going to be The Year of The Winthrop, Quincy, Waltham, Watertown, Wakefield, Belmont, Medford, or Arlington.

I do know that 2017 is going to be The Year of the Heart.

I assume it’s going to be The Year of The Home-Cooked Meal.

img_8811

img_8812

img_8813

It’s probably going to be The Year of the Teabag.

img_8817

It might be The Year of the Mermaid.

img_8809

If this year is like recent ones, it’s going to be The Year of The Music That Fits In My Blog.

img_8801

img_8802

Because we have two cats, 2017 will be The Year of The Cat.

What do you think 2017 will be the year of?

Every year, for me, is The Year of The Thanks, so thanks to all who helped me create this post and thanks to you — of course! — on this new day of The Year of the ______.

Day 1501: Persisting

In my persisting need to follow the news, I read that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said this about Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, yesterday:

She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.

I can see that this statement is persisting in many ways on social media and elsewhere.

Because I have been persisting for so long as a woman with lots of ideas who likes to express them, I have also  been warned, given explanations, and nevertheless persisted.

Do I have to give explanations for these persisting images on my iPhone?

I hope you leave a persisting comment about this persisting post, below.

Day 1475: Pick One

Every day, I pick one topic I think will be helpful for me and my readers. Often, I pick one photo from the day before for inspiration.

img_8081

Notice that staff at cardiac rehab is telling me to pick one exercise — either the BioStep or the Stationary Bike.  The first day they told me to pick one, I didn’t notice that instruction, and I did both exercises. If I had to pick one thing to say about that, I’d say that doing both exercises didn’t hurt.

With all that’s been happening lately, if I had to pick one book to read, it would probably be this one:

img_8085

IMG_8087.jpg

img_8086

I couldn’t pick one photo of that book cover, so I included all three. That last photo reminds me that I’m trying to pick one seaside location for our next home. I’d like to pick one home that fits our needs for the next decade.

If you had to pick one photo that’s your favorite from this post, which would it be?

If I had to pick one song for this post, I guess it would be this one:

If you had to pick one guy who reminded you of Captain Hook, who would it be?

I can’t pick one person to thank, so thanks to all who helped me create today’s post and to you — of course! — for picking this one blog to visit, here and now.
