Day 2589: 02/02/2020

Today is

  1. Groundhog Day,
  2. a palindrome date (the numbers are the same backwards and forwards), and
  3. my 67th birthday!

In 2018, I wrote a song titled “Shameless Appeals for Applause” which starts out

I’ve made it to age 65,

Nothing gets in the way of my passion and drive,

I was born with heart problems but I’m still alive.

I wonder if I need to rewrite that opening?  If so, not today.  Today I’m going to

  • watch if the groundhog sees his shadow.
  • think about the return of spring in the midst of winter.
  • spend the day with my eminently quotable husband Michael who recently said, “If you’re going to learn something, you have to not know it first.”
  • enjoy a new production of the musical “Hair.”
  • enjoy not having to color my hair.
  • get a free meal.
  • watch for this Super Bowl commercial, which mentions my hometown:

  • share my latest photos with you.

Day 1497: Why wait?

Why wait?  Why not just act, here and now, and deal with the consequences?

Why wait to

  • move?
  • change?
  • grow?
  • love?

Why wait for two signs I saw yesterday about waiting?

img_8627

img_8647

Why wait to move to a new place and leave the old place behind?

Why wait, when we are all mortal?

Why wait, when we don’t know what tomorrow will bring?

Why wait to share confusion about two opposite sayings about waiting?

He who hesitates is lost.

Look before you leap.

Why wait to show you my other photos from yesterday?

Why wait for Tom Petty and this great song about waiting?

Did you wait for “The Waiting”?

Why wait to express your thoughts and feelings in a comment?

Why wait to show gratitude and appreciation?

Day 1473: Expectations

Four years ago, when my expectations for this blog were that I would write one post every day for only one year, I published my first post about expectations.

My expectations, here and now, include the following:

  • I’ve learned more about expectations since then.
  • Most people have expectations for themselves and for others.
  • It helps to be aware of expectations and to check them out with other people.
  • Expectations are a form of fortune-telling about the future.
  • My regular readers probably have expectations about the kinds of photos I include in this blog.

How did those photos match your expectations?

My expectation is that I’ll find appropriate music for this post on YouTube.

I expect that any comment from you would exceed my expectations.

Any expectations about how I might end this post?

Day 1027: Blanks

I’m drawing a blank, this morning, on what to write about.

Perhaps I’m drawing a blank because — instead of blanking out and relaxing, the way I usually do on a Saturday — I’ll be attending a retreat of group therapy leaders.

Perhaps I’m drawing a blank because I know that my mind might go blank, today, when it’s my turn to speak.  Even though I’m experienced in groups, my mind can go blank (especially if anybody in the group has a blank expression).

Perhaps I’m drawing a blank because I saw these, yesterday:

IMG_6239 IMG_6240

I also saw this yesterday:

IMG_6241

If you’re drawing a blank for the answer to “Why didn’t the skeleton cross the road?” just fill in these blanks:

_ _    _ _ _ _

If nobody fills in those blanks, I will do so  later (after I return at ____ o’clock from the all-day group therapy retreat).

I’d like to find the words, now, to express how difficult it’s been to insert blanks into this blankety-blank post, but my mind’s a blank.

Was I shooting blanks when I took these other photos yesterday?

IMG_6244

IMG_6233 IMG_6238

Here’s what somebody whose name is _____ said, last night, about “Poverty is unnecessary day.”

Next month, perhaps Whole Foods will be advertising “cancer is superfluous day.”

When I tried to reply to that, my mind went blank.

What music makes your mind go blank?

Please fill in the blanks below this post with a comment, even if your mind’s a blank.

I’m drawing a blank on how to end this post, so …

106 has a lot of blanks, doesn’t it?
