Day 1608: Pick Your Battles

Whenever I pick a title for this daily blog post, I check to see if I’ve ever picked that title before.  Even though we all have to pick our battles …

pick (one’s) battle(s) To choose not to participate in minor, unimportant, or overly difficult arguments, contests, or confrontations, saving one’s strength instead for those that will be of greater importance or where one has a greater chance of success

… this is the first time I’ve picked this title.

Why did I pick “Pick Your Battles” today?

  1. “Pick your battles” came up in group therapy and in individual therapy several times this week,
  2. I’ve been needing to pick my battles lately,
  3. Sometimes I battle to decide which battles are too minor, unimportant, or overly difficult, and
  4. I took  these two  photos with battles last night:

Let’s see if there are more battles in the other photos I’m picking today.

Pick your favorite battle music (battling here, here, here, here, and here) on YouTube):

I know there are a lot of things battling for your time and attention, but could you please pick some words to share in a comment below?

Here’s the image I’m picking to express my gratitude to all who helped me create this pick-your-battles post and to you — of course! — no matter what battles you’re picking today.

Yesterday, I saw this sign, which I love:

Throughout the day, I took other photos of things I love.

Here‘s another thing I love:

Because we who love classical music believe it heals the body, soul, and mind, I’m going to request that classical music be playing during my recovery from open heart surgery, next week.

Here’s another thing we bloggers love: comments!

I hope gratitude is a thing you love, because I’m feeling it, now, for you.

Day 1169: Grumpy

I have many reasons to be grumpy right now, including the following:

  1. I’m always grumpy immediately after a time change,
  2. I’m wearing a new dental device to treat my sleep apnea, which puts my jaw out of joint (temporarily) overnight,
  3. my only child– who’ll be graduating high school in June — will be leaving home very soon,
  4. our cat Oscar likes to bite me in the mornings,
  5. I ate way too much fat and sugar yesterday,
  6. I discovered that the whiteboard at my new office in Newton had fallen down,
  7. when we were moving the desk for my new office, one of the legs fell off,
  8. my son and I visited a make-your-own-Sundae place near where I grew up, which made me miss my late mother,
  9. I didn’t have any time alone yesterday to relax, and
  10. my empathy makes me join with any grumpy creatures around me.

What makes you grumpy?

Of course, I have many reasons not to be grumpy today, including the fact that I have lots of new pictures to show you.

I am inspired by the cool fish in that last photo to let go of all remaining grumpiness with a song:

Many thanks to all who helped me create today’s grumpy post and to you — of course! — no matter how grumpy you’re feeling, here and now.
