Day 3385: A circle of caring

Yesterday, I saw this card about a circle of caring:

I believe that a circle of caring surrounds me here and elsewhere, as I circle around my life. And as a group therapist, I strongly believe in the healing power of circles of caring.

Because today is a Monday holiday in my home state of Massachusetts, I get to experience another circle of self care before I work again tomorrow.

The National Day Calendar doesn’t list Patriots’ Day, probably because there’s such a small circle of U.S. states caring about that.

Day 3017: Preferences

My preferences for creating this daily blog include capturing images the day before and then deciding on the theme and title soon after I wake up.

Another preference is to share experiences that might help others. Last week in therapy, I expressed my preferences for helpful labels over minimizing and critical ones like “loser,” “superficial,” “screwed up”, and “hopeless.” My preference is to give homework assignments, so I gave this one: every time you catch yourself applying a negative label to yourself, change that label to “human.”

Somebody over the weekend, who wanted to assign me a complimentary label, tried “captivating” first and then settled on “engaging.” I told them my preference was “captivating.”

Day 2288: WTF?

WTF?  Five years ago, I unquestionably wrote another WTF post.

Today, the “F” in “WTF?” has another meaning.

WTF?  What’s the flavor of each of my other photos from yesterday?

 

WTF?  Personally, I have an intense craving for the flavors of nature. Why The F aren’t we all out there enjoying those Wonderful Terrific Flavors on this precious day? WTF? Who The F knows how many days we have left?

There are no lyrics. But I didn’t need em. The song connected with me on a metaphysical level.

WTF? Why The F is it so difficult for me to write a Letter from the President for my professional organization’s  semiannual  newsletter when I can write a blog post here every day?  WTF? And  Why The F is it so difficult to remember the difference between semiannual and biannual?

Day 1912: Jumping to conclusions

Are you ready for some jumping to conclusions?

If you jump to this page about jumping to conclusions, you’ll see that jumping to conclusions includes two very common cognitive distortions:  mind reading and fortune telling.

Perhaps some of you are jumping to the conclusion that I’m writing about jumping to conclusions today because of something that jumped out at me yesterday.

I wonder if there are any conclusions or jumping in my other photos from yesterday.

With all those bunnies jumping out at us, we might jump to the conclusion that Easter is approaching.

I jumped to the conclusion that cats would be in that box and in that card holder, but they weren’t. However, cats were nearby.

This  is always on my mind about jumping to conclusions:  sometimes we’re right and sometimes we’re not.  Let’s not jump to the conclusion that our conclusions are always right and other people’s conclusions are always wrong.

If jumping to conclusions really burned calories, I wouldn’t be gaining weight from eating delicious food.

If you jumped to the conclusion that Michael made salmon last night, your conclusion would be correct.

Has anybody jumped to the conclusion about what music we’ll be jumping to now?

Day 1908: What’s around us

Yesterday, Bernadette at Tufts Medical Center was around me.

We talked about what was around us at work and with our families.  When I asked her if she wanted to appear in my blog (where I document what’s around me),  she said, “Sure!”

I showed her the other photos I had just taken around her.

She said, “Those are great!  Where did you find them?” When I told her they were around her, she was all shook up.  “Really? I’ve never noticed them!”  We talked about how often we don’t notice what’s around us.  We both resolved to not worry, be happy, and notice what’s around us.

Day 1561: Everyday pick-me-ups

Every day, I look for pick-me-ups that I can pick up and share in this blog. Here’s one I picked up yesterday:

I’ve picked up from picky people that everyday pick-me-ups are particularly helpful on Mondays. Therefore, I’m picking these pick-me-ups for you, today.

When you become part of the universe and the universe becomes part of you, is that a pick-me-up? If not, what are your everyday pick-me-ups?

My sister, who is always one of my pick-me-ups, offered to pick me up later today and drive me and Michael to a Passover Seder at my cousin Lani’s house.

I wonder what pick-me-ups I’ll have to share with you tomorrow.

For now, I need to pick me up from this blogging chair and go to the Honda Dealership to see if I can pick me up a new tire. Then, I hope to pick the right things to say to provide pick-me-ups for people at work.
