Day 3266: PLEASE NO ______

Before the pandemic hit, I made this button for a patient (who was dealing with a judgmental family member) and for myself:

.

Yesterday, I asked this question on Twitter:

I was pleased to see that people had many responses, including

  • lies,
  • gun violence,
  • racism,
  • misogynists,
  • homophobes,
  • excuses,
  • hate,
  • judgment,
  • disrespect,
  • wars,
  • injustice,
  • stupidity,
  • bullies, and
  • beets.

Some people replied that their button would simply say “PLEASE NO.” I can definitely relate to that, especially when I’m feeling so overwhelmed I have trouble pleasing anyone.

It’s occurring to me, here and now, that the button could also read “PLEASE NO ONE MORE THAN YOURSELF.”

Please no applause until the end, as I share my other images for today.

Please no lager for me; I don’t drink alcohol.

Please no worries about my sharing more relevant theme songs for these times. Here’s “It’s the End of World as We Know It” by R.E.M.

… and “I Got it From Agnes” by Tom Lehrer.

Please no need to leave a comment, but I’ll be pleased if you do.

Please no endings without gratitude for all, including YOU!

  1. Mine specifically for close family members when I am telling a story: Interruptions

  2. Smart Alecs!

  3. puella33

    Don’t forget to smile

  4. As someone who works in a library I have to ask for please no Dewey Decimal system, but yes to more Tom Lehrer. The library where I work uses a system called Alma and some of the librarians I work with have enough of a sense of humor to appreciate me saying “You should have a statue in bronze/For bagging Gustav and Walter and Franz!”

  5. Please no… Plumbing disasters today.
    That should do it

  6. Please no … Politics. Ah, Tom Lehrer, there’s always a song I haven’t heard!

  7. hate

  8. Please, no more ignoring that Harley won the Nobel prize on this day, and that Joan has learned the Middle Way.

  9. Please No Rudeness. Can’t take it anymore, Ann.

  10. Many things come to mind, but I think if only one word will do, I’d say “Please No Negativity.” I think that would just about cover everything that first comes to my mind. It would be a good place to start!
