Day 2677: Lectures

There will be no lectures, here and now  — just a sharing of information and images, like this one:

Please, no lectures about that button I made for a woman who has to  deal with a man who lectures her.  Instead, let’s look at this definition of lecture:

to criticize (someone) severely or angrily especially for personal failings

“the frustrated manager lectured the waitstaff about its poor level of service”

Please, no lectures about my sharing the definition, synonyms, and antonyms for the verb form of the word “lecture” there.

Instead of lectures, I prefer

  • action,

  • awareness,
  • understanding,

  • approval,
  • endorsement,
  • praise,

  • acceptance.

Who lectures you, these days?   Authority figures?  Family members? Acquaintances? YOURSELF?

How do those lectures affect you?  How do you deal with them?

If you wear a button like this about lectures …

… at least you’re being direct and polite.

No lectures about signing up for my socially distanced performance of “I Left the House Before I Felt Ready” tomorrow night between 7 – 9 PM, USA Eastern Time, but you do need to do that TODAY by using this link:

Are there any lectures in my other photos from yesterday, when I left the house before I felt ready?

I didn’t hear any lectures in Buena Vista Social Club last night, but I did hear great music including this:

I look forward to your thoughts and feelings about lectures, below.

No lectures, just thanks to all who helped me create this “Lectures” post, including YOU.

  1. No Thankyou… no lectures here too! I’m being responsible for everything iam❤️ Thankyou for the lovely pics and much love to you x

  2. Back in college Ann … OK, way back in college, Ann, they’d label some courses lectures and others labs. I guess I did feel chagrined for not knowing what I didn’t know, and some of the lecturers did come off as kind of angry about it.

  3. Some good pics today, Ann – especially those with trees

  4. Back in my early 20s, I had lots of lectures from my mom. She lectures me cos she never liked any of my boyfriends. You know, Asian mom! LOL! ฅ(≚ᄌ≚)

  5. I have an 18 year son, in addition to my two others. I’m really trying SO HARD not to lecture him. But honestly. How can anyone sleep that much?

  6. No lectures here. I may nod off instead!

  7. That “Private Beach” sign makes me think about how, if I lived in a beach house, I’d be fine with people passing through, because I believe beaches are for everyone, but I wouldn’t want them lingering right in front of me, which reminds me of a Larry David joke: “I’m glad I’m not a 15th century Spanish lord because I’d feel uncomfortable calling my servants by the formal usted and would prefer the informal tu. But I wouldn’t want them feeling like they could get a beer from the fridge any time they wanted.”
Before this comment becomes any more of a lecture I’m going to go check out where I can watch you perform tomorrow.

  8. no lectures and l love the button. would also make another great t-shirt. you can have your own online store with all of your succinct messages. i loved buena vista social club and saw them perform live while sitting on the lawn at a local theater on a sweltering and beautiful. in spite of the weather, they all looked dapper, dressed in suits, ties and wonderful hats as they played their hearts out and were so appreciative of the audience. i’ll never forget it.

I love your pictures of the out-doors, especially the first. Nature never loses it’s grace- it alwasy continues to blossom…. Have a nice day, Ann

  10. I don’t think you have ever lectured us on your blog here, Ann. I wish I could attend your performance!

  11. I don’t need a lecture but I rarely get one, thankfully

  12. No lectures from you or the Buena Vista Social Club. Those guys always look like they’re having the best time, which is the antithesis of a lecture. Though, I never think of lecture with that definition. I always thing of college, where you went to class, listened to a lecture, took notes… I rarely hear a lecture anymore in the “I’m putting you right” sense. But I do hear the occasional rant, which is just as bad.
