Over the years, I have written, while alone, these blog posts with “alone” in the title:
Day 163: Alone in the presence of others
In the three years since I wrote that last “Alone” post,
- I had open heart surgery to get a mechanical valve,
- Trump was elected President,
- I became President of the Northeastern Society for Group Psychotherapy, and
- I have invited many people to realize that they are not alone, in Coping and Healing therapy groups and also here at WordPress.
This week, I’m going to conduct five Coping and Healing groups and each one of us participating will be alone in a room because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I may wear this t-shirt while facilitating a Coping and Healing group this week:
I alone took all these other photos yesterday:
Michael alone makes amazing meals for me.
Here are some quotes about “alone”:
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. — Helen Keller
I only go out to get me a fresh appetite for being alone. — Lord Byron
It is far better to be alone, than to be in bad company. — George Washington
We are rarely proud when we are alone. — Voltaire
I want to be with those who know secret things or else alone. — Rainer Maria Rilke
I don’t want to be alone, I want to be left alone — Audrey Hepburn
The only real progress lies in learning to be wrong all alone. — Albert Camus
Look at the sky. We are not alone. The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best to those who dream and work. — A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
If it’s true that our species is alone in the universe, then I’d have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little. — George Carlin
We allow our ignorance to prevail upon us and make us think we can survive alone, alone in patches, alone in groups, alone in races, even alone in genders. — Maya Angelou
When the people you love are gone, you’re alone. — Keanu Reeves
To live alone is the fate of all great souls. — Arthur Schopenhauer
A year ago, when people were able to gather in groups, Nat Shirley and I performed this song which I did not write alone.
If you have thoughts and feelings about anything in this “Alone” post, you alone can express them in a comment, below.
I’m sure I’m not alone in my gratitude that we’re all alive, here and now.
In the circumstances that would be a suitable T-shirt
Thank you for this suitable comment, my friend.
If it is one thing I have learned being alone never lasts.
That’s a valuable thing to learn and thank you for this comment!
Alone is Bliss!
It can be, David, but I’m glad to be connected to you!
Last night I read something inspirational about Harold Ramis. He always carried two pieces of paper with him in each pocket. One said, “You are special and the world was created for you.” The other said, “You are an insignificant speck in a vast, uncaring universe.” He said the trick was to accept that both of those things are true and live a life balanced between them.
You alone, Chris, would make that comment and I am grateful to you and to the late, great Harold Ramis.
I don’t mind being alone
You’re not alone, Jo-Anne, and thanks for being here!
I love being alone, but am never lonely, because I am such good company!!!
I agree, Peter, and I love the company of your comments!
I’m not alone with Harley.
Harley often prefers to be alone but he appreciates your comment, Maria.
Nobody’s perfect! At least not all the time. That song cheered me up. Thanks.
Your comment cheered me up, Lisa!
I know I’m not alone in saying that I am grateful for you, Ann….
I’m sure I’m not alone in being grateful for you, Lori.
