Day 2566: What’s the matter with me?

What’s the matter with me, that I’ve written three posts  (here, here, and here) with the title “What’s wrong with me?”  over the last seven years?

What’s the matter with me, that one day after I lost and found my wallet, I dropped a New Yorker tote bag with my marriage certificate while I was walking to work in the extreme cold, even though that marriage certificate matters so much to me?

What’s the matter with me, that I was considering titling this post “What would Freud say?”

What’s the matter with me, that I’m explaining losing track of important things by telling myself that I’m so concentrated on not losing my wedding ring (which is too big) that I’m dropping other things?

What’s the matter with me, that I have SO MANY things to keep track of every day?

What’s the matter with me, that I’m sharing only these photos from yesterday?

What’s the matter with me, that I’m losing track of so many things these days but can still hear this song in my head?

What’s the matter with me, that

  • I’m sad that Sam Cooke died so young,
  • I’m anxious about so many matters in today’s news,
  • I tell people in my therapy groups that anxiety about forgetting makes us forget even more, and
  • when people ask me “What’s wrong with me?” I answer “nothing.”

If you comment on what you think is the matter with anything, that will matter to me.

What’s the matter with me, that I always end every post with gratitude?

  1. There is nothing the matter with you, Ann. You are trying to keep track of too many things is all.

  2. So glad you are here and you care about what matters Ann 💕

  3. Simple – Not a lot!

  4. When I start making atypical errors it usually means I am preoccupied.

  5. Freud’s thoughts should always be taken with a grain of salt, and it’s best to limit the times you ask “What would Freud say?” because too much salt intake can result in something wrong with you.

  6. I hope you found your wedding certificate.

Something that I think is the matter right now is that escalating tensions between the US and Iran led to a plane crash that killed a lot of innocent people. 138 of them were in their way to Canada, many of them citizens who were visiting relatives in Iran over the holidays, or international students. Two of them were friends of my kids. Brilliant, kind, amazing, people who were going to make the world a better place. And now they are dead. Let’s remember that the costs of military action or political policies are often far greater than acknowledged by leaders.

    • Your comment matters so much, Maureen, and so does this horrible loss of lives. It matters that we do whatever we can to make the world a better place. ❤ ❤

  7. I don’t think anything is the matter with you (to answer your question). You just got married! Celebrated holidays with your son and his girlfriend and others! Have a job where you help people in pain! Do fun things in your spare time! Think about the world and about individuals!

There is only so much space in one person’s brain. Better to drop an item than a person.

Your tote is hanging out at Emmanuel College! That place I recognized! 🙂 Nothing is the matter with you- it’s just that unpleasant things are happening all at once. I’m just curious, why would you bring your marriage certificate to work? Have a nice day, Ann 🙂

    • Thanks for hanging out here! I brought my marriage certificate in to work to make a copy of it so I could change my health insurance coverage to include my new husband. Nice of you to ask.

  9. What’s the matter with you? Nothing; just unique.

  10. There is nothing wrong with you, I cannot wear my wedding ring it doesn’t fit

  11. Last week I had a similar conversation with a friend, Ann. We both have said we’re misplacing things and finding ourselves a bit disorganized. I reasoned that we’re like the computers we had 20 years ago that required occasional harddrive defragmenting. I never did understand that process, actually, but it stands as a helpful metaphor when I feel overwhelmed. Let’s clean our harddrives! We have too much to keep track of, which seems to be most of us!
