Day 2522: Hang ups

One of my hang ups is thinking about my and other people’s hang-ups, so when I saw this yesterday on my way to work …

… I thought, “Tomorrow’s blog topic is hang ups!”

The internet, which is a hang-up for many of us, includes these definitions of hang-up:

I don’t want to get too hung up on presenting definitions and synonyms of “hang-up,” so here’s a list of hang ups that preoccupy me and others, these days:

  • Worry about the future.
  • Regret about the past.
  • Resentment.
  • Excessive guilt.
  • Misplaced shame.
  • A focus on what other people think.
  • Cognitive distortions (including blaming, catastrophizing, personalization,  all-or-nothing thinking, comparisons, labeling, and shoulds).

Do you see hang ups in my other photos from yesterday?

I am very hung up on Michael’s cooking.

I’ve been hung up on the group Buffalo Springfield for decades.

The original and the cover version of “Hung Upside Down” are hanging up here and here on YouTube.

What are your hang-ups? Any hang ups about sharing them in a comment, below?

Here’s an expression of gratitude hanging up in my office:

  1. I am hung up on kindness

  2. Trust you to hang up socks. That reminds me of my most memorable hang up: https://derrickjknight.com/2012/10/10/oiling-the-lion/

  3. Up, up and away, Ann.

  4. What are my hang ups? I am stumped. My brain is not quite awake enough to think deeply.

I am curious about the photos taken from behind the chain link fence. What are we looking at?

    • When I passed by that chain link fence yesterday, I noticed three things hanging up on it: (1) berries, (2) a string, which I assumed was the remnant of a sign previously hanging up there, and (3) an empty water bottle. Thanks, as always, for hanging out with me here, Maureen.

  5. Chocolate is a good choice over email, every time!
Can I choose to have a pillow case to hang up, rather than a sock?

  6. I can hang around, hang loose, hang laundry, hang about, have a hanging bag, a coat hanger, hang back, hang glide, hang out, hang on, hang ten, and occasionally get hangry, but I’m not sure if I have any hang ups, other than escalators, which I do my best to avoid.

The photo with the red berries attracted my eye- because there are no hang-ups with nautre – it grows gracefully without bothering anyone. The photo with the wired fence and the plastic bottle was an eye sore because it depicts that some people don’t care about the environment ergo themselves. I don’t understand what their hang-up is.. A good day to you, Ann and everyone.

  8. I hang up all the time on those trying to scam me, and grandpa hangs upside down in cupboardsm oh hang on that’s The Munsters tv show, my bad

  9. I could’ve written your hang up list about myself. I’m glad I’m not alone. Btw, I laughed out loud at the email vs. chocolate. Thanks!

  10. You were really observant to see so many excellent photogenic complements to “hang ups!” I wonder if you’d seen the sign about rare genetic heart conditions before, or was that new to you? Do I have any hangups? Oh, of course not! Well, maybe a few… 🙂
