Day 2265: Exhausted

Even though I’m up for anything these days, sometimes I get exhausted, especially on Thursdays, when I

  • work from 10 to 9,
  • facilitate two therapy groups,
  • orient new people for my groups,
  • see several people for individual therapy,
  • go to a meeting of social workers,
  • have about 20 minutes for lunch,
  • try to decide whether to look at or avoid the news,
  • practice my  latest song, and
  • practice self-care.

In one of those therapy groups, a person exhausted by a major and unexpected loss shared that she practices self care by taking breaks, even if it’s a break for a moment.  I wasn’t too exhausted to hear that she had learned that skill in my groups.

I was so exhausted by the end of the day  that I added a new emotion to the emotions chart on my door:

Here and now, I’m exhausted by the possibility that somebody might tell me that “exhausted” is not really an emotion.

Here and now, I’m NOT too exhausted to share my other photos from yesterday.

I hope you’re not too exhausted to share what exhausts you and what energizes you, in a comment below.

Here‘s the late and great Madeline Kahn singing about how exhausted she is in Mel Brooks‘s Blazing Saddles.

I’m never too exhausted to express my gratitude for all those who help me create these daily posts and — of course! — for YOU.

  1. My thought is that exhausted at the very least is a physical and mental state tied very close together. That qualifies as an emotion in my life, Ann!

Many things exhaust me including the news. Not as many energize me but your blog is among things that do. πŸ™‚

  3. For anyone who says “exhaustion” isn’t an emotion I’ll just point out that it describes a way you feel and since feelings are emotions…but I find quibbling about semantics exhausting, unlike Madeline Kahn whose performances are always invigorating.

  4. I’m exhausted too, my friend. (οΉ‘κ‘“ οΈΏ κ‘“`οΉ‘)

  5. The title of your post immediately drew a the bow of recognition in my body! πŸ™‚ At times, I too feel exhausted and then… I remember it’s just an emotion and it too shall pass. πŸ™‚ (YUP — I believe it’s an emotion too!)

  6. I’m exhausted too, often. But, then there’s a good sleep and it’s start up again!

  7. Being exhausted definitely supercharges my emotions, so I think your emoji was right on task! And thank you for Madeline Kahn. I loved her, and it’s been awhile since I’ve had a moment to reflect on how she always made me smile. I hope this weekend you’re able to get some quality rest, Ann. Weekends can be exhausting, too, but sometimes in a good way. πŸ™‚

  8. Your tombstone (that i hope will not be needed for decades yet) was also pictured on the last post of yours i read and responded to: Apr 9 2017, exactly 713 days ago – how cool it that? πŸ™‚

Blazing Saddles and Madeline were brilliant!
