I don’t have much time to blog this morning, so allow me to immediately get to the heart of the matter.
Last week at a group therapy conference in the heart of Los Angeles, I heard a wonderfully skilled and compassionate group therapist suggest something that mattered a lot to me — if somebody is telling a long story in group which is taking people out of the here-and-now, the facilitator can interrupt to ask, “What is the heart of the matter?”
Yesterday, in my first therapy group after my return to Boston, I told the members what I had learned about inviting people to go to the heart of the matter. That touched people’s hearts, in the moment, and deepened the experience of the group.

Usually, it matters to me that I completely erase the white board in preparation for other meetings in that room. Yesterday, I left “The Heart of the Matter” on that white board for other hearts to experience.

Today family dysfunction is of major concern. Yet, in the pursuit of modernism we have become blind to the value in tradition. There is an unfounded conflict between modern man and modern woman. In that battle the justice sought has tuned to vengeance. Balance is lost today because of a misunderstanding or misguidance of the meaning of the head and heart. Family unity, productivity and harmony can be restored with a willingness to see the importance of the husband’s and wife’s unique role within. A happy home sees these roles as equally important for they most certainly are. One cannot be without the other. It is here that children are well adjusted and content. Here is defined the family where father is the head of the family and mother is its HEART.

So many matters of the heart Ann. My friend just had her 2nd heart transplant… first one 10 years ago at age 50-a virus attacked her heart causing it to fail. So I’ve been thinking about hearts that matter and matters of the heart lately

Novels matter!
I really like this as a focus to use when I’m unsettled about something and the hamster on the wheel in my mind has me spinning. I’ll try to remember to ask myself, “What’s the heart of the matter?” To answer the question it seems one needs to stop excuses and respond as honestly as possible.;-)
