“Say it isn’t so” is
- a common reaction to dire reports about climate change,
- something I often think, if not say, these days,
- an expression of denial, and
- a sign I saw yesterday.
Say it isn’t so that people get hurt at the opera.
Say it isn’t so that people we love leave.
Say it isn’t so that big brother is watching us.
Say it isn’t so that the sun will become our enemy, as average temperatures rise around the world.
Say it isn’t so that our cries for help go unheeded.
Say it isn’t so that somebody put these bumper stickers on his big SUV.
Say it isn’t so that so many people are traumatized by abuse.
Say it isn’t so that Daryl Hall turned 72 yesterday.
Say it, please, in a comment below.
Say it isn’t so that I would ever forget to thank all those who help me say what’s so important to me in these posts and — of course! — YOU.
You say it so well, Ann. Happy Birthday, John Hall, a man of fine voice still!
Say it isn’t so that I got the names mixed up. Daryl Hall of course!
Say it, Mark!
Those bumper stickers are deeply disturbing. Please say it isn’t so. Here’s to “smile on your brother” and say it’s so
We are so in synch, Lisa.
say it as it goes, the ship of life needs to alter it’s course, our habits are ruining us, our addictive minds that seek the constant hit needs to be reigned in, we need to stop, all of us, and just listen to great music for a day, feel the good vibration, cull the need to go shopping, so we can change the priorities, if we are sick in our habits, we can start to cure ourselves, if we remain in denial, who can help us, you don’t blame the doctor for getting it, you don’t blame the virus for making us ill, you just got to focus on changing the circumstances, us, amen…..
I say Amen to what you’re saying.
A lot of sadness in this post. Especially the note about the doctor. My post has something if you want a smile.
Thanks for the smile, Alex!
The best thing about the rebooted version of Battlestar Galactica is that the near extinction of humanity is our own fault. It’s a powerful and timely message. Also powerful is the show’s use of the phrase “So say we all.” In spite of its militarism it acknowledges that we all bear responsibility and have to work together to fix the mistakes we’ve made.
And we have made very big mistakes, and that we’re seeing the consequences in our climate has to be said.
We all appreciate what you say, Chris.
Say it isn’t so that some people will not vote because this is ‘only’ a midterm election.
Say it, Dawn, and VOTE, EVERYBODY!!!!
I think my version of “say it isn’t so” has become, “I just don’t understand…” I catch myself saying this over and over throughout a day as I hear or observe something that feels hard to accept! I say it often enough that my husband has started calling me on it! I have a very long list of concerns and worries that when unacknowledged by others make me feel at a minimum frustrated, and sometimes downright angry. Climate change debate is perhaps my Achilles heel. I can go from zero to sixty almost immediately when someone tries to rationalize that we don’t have a problem. Maybe if I shift to “say it isn’t so” I can get away with that for awhile before my husband calls attention to the repetition! I seem to need a phrase in my exasperated state. 🙂
I understand, Debra, and I love the way you say it.
I hope that if it is, it isn’t so bad.
I don’t know what to think about climate change, but I think that some of the people with memories of abuse and other bad things, get some help from you. Pretty sure that is so.
Thanks for saying it, Maureen.
So much harm is put down to progress – I wish that were not so
So much good done by people like you, Derrick.
🙂
I’m listening and I wish it isn’t so. Sending bear hugs to you ʕ ⊃・ ◡ ・ ʔ⊃
Say it isn’t so that it took me so long to see this comment and hug from you, NBC!
It isn’t so bad. The bear hugs are redeemable anytime.ʕ ⊃・ ◡ ・ ʔ⊃ʕ ⊃・ ◡ ・ ʔ⊃
