Day 1995: What wakes you up in the middle of the night?

What wakes you up in the middle of the night?

For me, it could be

  • concern about children,
  • worry about the state of the world,
  • something I ate,  and/or
  • something that’s eating me.

What do you do when you wake up in the middle of the night?

Sometimes, I blog.

Here are some photos from yesterday:

Here are “8 Reasons You Are Waking Up at Night”:

Here’s “What to Do When You Wake Up in the Middle of the Night”:

Finally, here’s “How to fall back asleep in the middle of the night.”

I’m going to follow the advice of that last video and do some deep breathing.

Thanks to all who helped me create this blog post and — of course! — thanks to YOU.

  1. Your list of ‘wake me ups’ looks pretty similar to mine….

  2. I don’t have insomnia, but my bladder does get me up. Last night I also had a shave 🙂

  3. I so wish I knew what gets me up and keeps me up in the middle of the night!

  4. Number one is the clear winner for me although there are a number of others as well. Big travel and big events looming can do it, too. I’ve listened to rainstorms and oceans (sans cawing gulls) and lectures on thermodynamics and such, trying to get glazed over with incomprehension. With my big People at Work Show happening after years of waiting, I wonder where everyone will park and then lie awake thinking about the food to serve.

  5. I try very hard to get back to sleep, Ann. Or I fall into the dreaded countdown of how long it it until I have to get up to get up to start my morning routine …

  6. Oh Ann, I’m trying not to, but at this very moment it’s a bad chest cough, woof, woof

  7. So many things going on in the world right now make it difficult for me to get to sleep, but what wakes me up is usually our oldest dog who sometimes has to go out in the middle of the night. And sometimes I see the moon and Jupiter hanging together in the sky–the same as in one of your pictures. We see the same sky and that makes me think about how small and fragile our place in the universe is, and how we must take care of each other.

  8. Quite often I’ll have a dream that seems like a good story idea, then I have to wake up and write it down before I forget it!

  9. Oh dear. Do you really want to know? The only thing that wakes me up at night is having to go tinkle. Since my spell checker didn’t red line me, I guess “tinkle” is in fact a word. Anyways, that’s it. I’m thankful, I do wake up. Otherwise…

  10. The need to pee, that’s what wakes me up and generally speaking I fall straight back to sleep when I go back to bed

  12. Sometimes my bedmate’s sleep sounds. Always my prolific bladder. 😟

  13. I’m with many others her. A well hydrated body needs to peak in the night! Bringing awareness to the breath, and slowing it down so it settles in the belly is a great way to activate the relaxation response and quiet the mind. 💕
