Day 1869: A painful process

Since I fell and tore my rotator cuff, life has been a painful process. Yesterday, when I was processing with other group therapists, somebody with true wisdom showed me this cartoon:

That painful couch reminds me of the shoulder pain that’s been waking me up in the middle of the night ever since I tore my rotator cuff.

To deal with this painful process, I’m writing a new set of lyrics to “The Lion Sleeps at Night.”

Ann Can’t Sleep at Night

“Wimmaway” chorus:

It hurts so bad, it makes me sad, it make me mad, and not too glad.

It hurts so bad, it makes me sad, it makes me mad, and not too glad.

EEEE-EEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEE-EEEE-EEEEEK ! (or any painful cry)

Verse 1:

Tear your rotator cuff and it will be hard to sleep at night.

With her rotator cuff-related pain, Ann can’t sleep at night.

It hurts so bad, it makes her sad, it makes her mad, and not so glad.

It hurts so bad, it makes her sad, it makes her mad, and not so glad.

EEEE-EEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEE-EEEE-EEEEEK !

Verse 2:

In the bedroom, the quiet bedroom, Ann can’t sleep at night.

In the bedroom, the quiet bedroom, she doesn’t feel all right.

It hurts so bad, it makes her sad, it makes her mad, and not so glad.

It hurts so bad, it makes her sad, it makes her mad, and not so glad.

EEEE-EEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEEE-EEEE-EEEE-EEEEEK !

Verse 3:

Hush that yelling, with all that yelling, the cats can’t sleep at night.

Hush that yelling and grab a laptop, and do your best to write.

EEEEK-EEEEK-EEEEEEK, EEEEEEK-EEEEEK-EEEEEK,EEEEEEk-EEEEEK-EEEEK-EEEEK-EEEEEEK.

If you want to join in this painful process,  you can sing along here.

Taking photos is more of a painful process, but that’s not stopping me.

Despite the painful process of life, I’ve had at least 40 years of fun.

Now it’s your turn to deal with the painful process of leaving a comment.

Thanks to all who are supporting me through this painful process, including YOU.

  1. and your posts always take away the pain of early morning – here’s to your healing

  2. It pains me to read this post Ann… so sorry you are in so much pain. ❤ sending a hug

  3. Great song. I can imagine your pain, and hope you may find relief

  4. I wish you will feel better very soon, Ann.

  5. Its a painful process to go through pain, that’s for sure. Give that shoulder some love Ann. It needs to heal and being angry with it slows down the process. Gentle hugs to you xoxo

  6. Have you tried one shot of whiskey before you entered the nighttime jungle, Ann?

  7. Yep I sang your words to the instrumental, and amazingly my necks feeling betterer, or maybe it’s this third glass of red wine.

  8. I’m sending you positive healing thoughts. I very much love the rewrite to ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’! It was one of my dad’s favorite songs. I am also going to take the advice from Mark and even though I don’t have pain I’ll try a shot of whiskey before bed.

  9. Gah! I know that feeling exactly. It took a long while for it to go away — it’s just really hard to find a comfortable way to sleep with that injury. I still work my shoulders every morning to keep limber or things stiffen up. Warning– you may NEVER make that Derek-Jeter-like throw from shortstop to first base again. I haven’t. But you can still sing! or dance. or embarrass your kids. or write. or read. or (eventually) lift your arm to point at a bird. (That one took quite a bit of time, but it did eventually happen.) I think I got creative with using pillows around my arm to find a comfortable position. If all that fails…whiskey…or wine… Mantras from Virginia coming your way, at any rate.

  10. I am sorry it hurts so much, Ann.I hope your shoulder feels better as in as possible. That was a nasty fall.

  11. Here’s my comment, my healing comment
    I’m leaving on Ann’s blog.
Leave your comments but please don’t wake her,
    She’s sleeping like a log.

I hope you can enjoy some rest.

  12. Oh yeah you must be in a lot of pain

  13. My sympathies! I had a rotator cuff injury a few years back – absolutely the worst.

  14. I’m wincing even reading your clever song, Ann. I’ve never suffered this injury, but I have watched others go through the ordeal of a torn rotator cuff and I sure did learn from them how serious and painful it is! You’re a trooper to even stay the course with your photos! I’m so sorry!!

  15. Oh, I love this song. I use to sing this song to my girls when they were babies.♪~♪ d(⌒o⌒)b♪~♪
