Day 1771: Approval

I keep reading about “historically low” approval in the news.

In my work as a therapist, I try to help people improve low self approval. Improving low self approval often includes  group therapy, where people realize they are not alone in their unfairly harsh approval of themselves.

Self approval is often improved by

  • self care,
  • connecting,
  • sharing,
  • letting go of shame,
  • acceptance,
  • forgiveness,
  • honoring dreams,
  • identifying an achievable next step, and
  • giving oneself credit for progress, no matter how small.

What helps you improve your self approval?

I suspect there will be some approval of today’s photos.

Is there approval for “Approval” by Brett Max?

My dreams include improved self approval for all who helped me create today’s post and — of course! — for YOU.  Thanks for your approval!

  1. Conversations between others on my posts is good

  2. I appreciate your reach and grasp, Ann.

  3. Having endured several medical crises in the past 14 years and survived, one thing stood out: Many people cared for me in various, and several went out of their ways to help me get to appointments when I couldn’t safely drive, care for my two kitty boys for over two months without being asked, and other small and big kindnesses. If they thought that much of me, how could I not feel better about myself?

I went from being cynical, in response to many years working in grim circumstances with negative people, to being positive and upbeat about life, with all its vicissitudes, thanks to those friends who came around for me when I was at my most vulnerable. I am blessed!

P.S. I think you are pretty wonderful, and look forward to your posts for the positivity they hold!

  4. I think”😄 my lack of self care is my biggest disappointed in my self approval ratings.

  5. Approval has to start with self…it just has to, Ann.

  6. Even though Rod Serling only said “Submitted for your approval…” three times on The Twilight Zone it’s become one of his most popular phrases because, I think, it appeals to our intelligence. It is a compliment to be asked for our approval, and makes us feel good about ourselves.
This comment is submitted for your approval.

  7. We need to like who we are and stop bashing ourselves and kicking ourselves when things go wrong

  8. Letting go of shame (and guilt) that aren’t ‘ours’. That was SO huge in my life. This list was spot on. ❤

  9. Your lists are always helpful. It’s good to remember that if you feel something, likely you’re not alone in that. It always gives me a bit of perspective.

  10. I can’t help but respond to your “cat in the cupboard” photo! Too cute! I sure do like the list you’ve created and think that each point is worth reviewing from time to time. I have fairly stable self-esteem, but everyone gets knocked down a peg or two from time to time!
