Day 1750: Water

Water can be

  • healing,
  • destructive,
  • nourishing,
  • polluted, and
  • the inspiration for blogs and for quotes.

You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water. — Rabindranath Tagore

A woman is like a tea bag – you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. — Eleanor Roosevelt

The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. — Isak Dinesen

No water, no life. No blue, no green. — Sylvia Earle

The mind is like an iceberg. It floats with one-seventh of its bulk above water. — Sigmund Freud

Study how water flows in a valley stream, smoothly and freely between the rocks.  Also learn from holy books and wise people.  Everything — even mountains, rivers, plants, and trees — should be your teacher. — Morihei Ueshiba

My fake plants died because I did not pretend to water them. — Mitch Heberg

Water is the driving force of all nature. — Leonardo da Vinci

Yesterday, most of my photos were of water, as I visited  the Fort Point Arts Community Open Studios.

Repeating the question from yesterday’s blog post — What’s your favorite picture?  Or quote?

Also, during my travels near water yesterday, I purchased something pictured above.  Any guesses about what that might be?

Yesterday  was the anniversary of the first performance of Debussy’s La Mer (The Ocean).

Thanks to the ocean, Claude Debussy,  the Fort Point Artists Community (including Jennie Griffith and my old business partner Jonathan Stark),  Tacey Luongo, all the people I quoted, and — of course! — YOU.

  1. What is it that “white thing” that appears to be an iceberg in the harbor photo, facing the skyline?

  2. I don’t know what you purchased, Ann, but I bought in on the beauty and significance of water.

  3. My favorite us the boy on the beach with the dogs. Love the Yiddish magnets!

  4. Necklace?

  5. I’m thinking you bought that necklace, Ann. And water…something we should never take for granted.

  6. Hi Ann, 12.30am Tuesday here, thus I’m quite tired, and have just put my big “glass of water” on my bedside table ready for my bedtime, so just a link, a poem I wrote called, Waterways. https://ivors20.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/waterways-2/

  7. “A library is like an island in the middle of a vast sea of ignorance, particularly if the library is very tall and the surrounding area has been flooded.”
That quote, from Lemony Snicket, is one of my favorites, although one of your pictures reminded me of another favorite, by Mel Brooks: “Zeit nicht meshugge!”

  8. You brought so many good photos in this post Ann, that I can’t just choose one 🙂

  9. from my dry, burning landscape
    this offers cool, wet
    thirst quenching relief!
    thanks, Ann 🙂

  10. Love this quote Ann
“The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea. — Isak Dinesen”
