Day 1549: If you could be any animal, which would you be?

If I could be any animal besides a human, I’d be a duck, because a duck

Yesterday, after my therapy group, when I was being sociable with the nurses at work, I noticed  they had chosen a different animal for me.

If I could be any animal besides a human or a duck, I’d be a butterfly, because a butterfly

  • is adept in the air,
  • spends a lot of time around flowers,
  • looks great, and
  • changes in very profound ways.

If you could be any animal, would you be any of these?

If you could be any animal interviewing for a job, you might find this useful:

If you could choose any musical number about any animal, which would it be? The animals at YouTube just suggested two  (here and here):

The Lion King medley reminds me that I’ll be singing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” for groups of animals, very soon.

Thanks to all the animals that helped me create this post and to you — of course! — no matter what animal you’d be.

  1. This was amazing post 🙂 Thank you dear Ann, love, nia

  2. Horse.
    No! Bird!
    No! Whale!
    No! Dog!
    No!
I think I better let God choose!!!!!!!

  3. I wouldn’t mind being a crow

  4. That Michael Crawford…with his lion share of talent, will always be the man in the Phantom mask to me. Beautiful share, Ann. Be the duck, or the butterfly, or whatever you choose.

  5. I’ve always wanted to be a bird so I could fly. I dream about flying sometimes.

  6. I don’t think I could be an animal, Ann. My parents would not have allowed it.

  7. Those are awesome. I’m not sure what animal I would come back as. I’m currently a pig. Maybe a dog. Not just any dog though. A spoiled dog – cause you know that’s the life I’m used to – snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon

  8. What does it say about me that I love the diversity of life so much that I can’t pick a single animal? In his essay Can We Truly Know Sloth And Rapacity? Stephen Jay Gould talks about vultures and sloths and how people misjudge them by applying human standards. A person who wants to be a sloth isn’t necessarily lazy, but might want to experience the world in a completely different way.
That would explain my desire to be an octopus, or a starfish, or a spider…

  9. Lion. When I was 5 I said I wanted to grow up to be a lion. Haven’t changed me mind.

  10. I think I like the unicorn best Thank you for a lovely post.

  11. Hi, Ann. Intriguing post. I would like to have the grace and beauty of a horse, the temperament of a Maine Coon cat, and the intelligence and memory of an elephant,

    • Hi! I’m always so glad to see you, with all your grace, beauty, intelligence, memories, and intriguing temperament.

  12. Cool thing about butterflies is you get to be a caterpillar first – so it’s kind of a two in one deal! 🙂

And I too would love to be a unicorn.

  13. I’m going with Armadillo. That’s Spanish for “Little Armored One” and I think that fits this small cog nicely. I wouldn’t live in Texas though. Armadillo life spans are not very long in that particular venue. Back in the 80’s a band called Atchafalaya made a parody song called “Watch Out Armadillos”, sang to the tune of “Amadeus”. One of my favorite funny songs.

  14. I’d be a quarter horse. Free to run and leap the range at will with the wind in my face and simply fulfilling God’s purpose for me. As a young boy whose power to run and jump was lost through the effects of polio, it is understandable that my choice of animal to be is as described above.
    -Alan

  15. I would be a cat, because cats and cute and soft and nasty bitches at the same time

  16. Maybe a cat. I love them and always have. Is that an armadillo the boy is holding?

  17. Given that my eldest son has always thought of me as an eccentric, it has to be an echidna:

  18. My familiar is a butterfly. #witchywoman
