Day 1458: We’re still alive

Yesterday, in a therapy group, somebody said, “We’re still alive.”  Since that phrase felt very alive to me, I wrote it on my white board, where it still is.

I heard and wrote that shortly  before I found out that Carrie Fisher was no longer alive, when I  read this on Facebook: “We lost a Jedi.”

I still believe it’s important,  every day, to remember we’re still alive, because eventually every one of us will be still.

Here‘s the best song for this post —  Stephen Sondheim’s “I’m Still Here” from Carrie Fisher’s Postcards from the Edge:

I often sing that song when I walk around, still alive,  and see scenes like this:

Which images are still alive, for you?

I’m very grateful we’re still alive as I thank all  who helped me create this post and you — of course —  for still being here.

  1. You had me at ‘we’re still alive’. I will cling to that for as long as possible.

  2. Yes, we are still alive though we have all lost so many this year. We must remember to live life to its fullest.

  3. Once again, we were on the same page, a day apart.

“Life is short, dead is for a very long time. Enjoy life.

  4. Still Alive, that one says it all. :o)

  5. Ann, dearest Ann, I have not been online much but I made it a point to come on over here to wish you a belated Merry Christmas. I really pray for you that 2017 brings HEALTH, prosperity, happiness, and a JOY to be alive like never before. Much Love to you and your Loved Ones this Holiday Season! ❤

  6. I think this was the perfect post to read and remember, Ann. It is similar to how I feel when I am trudging into the warehouse every am in the dark. I think the song I sing to myself is applicable: “I’m Still Standing,” by Elton John! 😀 I shout it in the car once in awhile. I need to get it on a CD.
My grandies, my grown children and friends give me lots of “presence” to remind me of my blessings. ❤ Have a wonderful rest of 2016 and all kinds of precious wonders in 2017, Ann!!

  7. “We’re still alive” and the outdoor pictures are my faves. Happy 2017 and keep moving, so you don’t get hauled away😎

  8. Benjamin Franklin may be dead now but he was alive for a very long time, and survived his famous experiment in spite of the risk he took flying a kite with a metal key attached and a Leyden jar at his feet.
The risks we take don’t always have to be life-threatening, but taking risks–being willing to challenge ourselves–is a good way to appreciate being alive.
And the “still alive” reminds me of Dali’s “Nature Morte Vivante”, usually translated as “Still Life Fast Moving”.

  9. Guess what I am still alive as are billions of people all over the world but since most of us are not famous even when we are no longer alive it will not be all over the news for days on end just saying

  10. Ann, May the Force be with you.
    -Alan

  11. Move happy Ann. I’m pretty sure that’s why Im still alive 😊
I’ll borrow Alan’s Star Wars quote, because I also love it!!
May the force be with you.
    🙏

  12. yes. It’s always good to slow down and appreciate that we’re still alive.

  13. Still alive are all those beautiful landscapes by the water you photograph. They are so full of life and flowing energy!

    I can hear them…

  14. The river scene with the ducks

  16. The celebrity deaths have really affected my landlady. While talking to her today she said “2016, what a year. Hopefully, we will not be out of here in 2017”. I said, “Oh, you mean moving out of the neighborhood?” She said “No, hopefully we won’t be dead like all these celebrities!” I burst out laughing because that was the last thing I was thinking about. I’m still alive! She laughed too, when she realized she too was still alive!

  17. hello ann koplow its dennis the vizsla dog hay it has ben a ruff yeer for shoor!!! but heer we ar stil arownd at the end of it!!! happy impending noo yeer!!! ok bye
