Here’s the first photo I took yesterday at the Mayo Clinic, a center for the spirit of people like me who need life-extending, life-improving, and life-saving heart operations:

All new directions converge at this center for the spirit, as I prepare myself for a cardiac catherization today and open heart surgery tomorrow. Since blogging daily at WordPress has been a center for my spirit since January 1, 2013, I’ve made sure that another center for my spirit — my boyfriend Michael — will center himself in front of my laptop to give updates to my readers after my surgery.
Art and music are both centers for my spirit. Here‘s some music I hope can be a center for your spirit, from a CD I made sure to bring with me to the Mayo Clinic:

I did not expect the Mayo clinic to be so uplifting and spiritual. It is like it reaches into you with humanity and compassion, before any knives are considered. Agam’s art is luminous.
We will welcome Michael with love as well as appreciation. All the photos of the meals he has cooked for you have left an impression and made him feel very much a part of the blog, all along.
You are going through this journey as a patient surrounded by love, surrounded by the most gifted helpers, and you are powerful this time around because you have chosen your team and are making your decisions. They are carrying you where you want to go, to health. I am thinking of you with protective love.

It’s reassuring that a place that emphasizes healing the body has so much for the mind and spirit too, but what’s really reassuring is the doctors there realize body, mind, and spirit are inseparable, although if I said Sum ergo sum I might be in danger of putting Descartes before the horse.
They tell some pretty good jokes here, too, Chris. Here’s one I heard from the guy who pushed me in a wheelchair after my procedure today:
How many Green Bay Packer fans does it take to change a light bulb?
Seven. One to change the light bulb and six to talk about how much better the last one was.
