Yesterday, on Mother’s Day 2016, my son Aaron and I were ready to read this on a tree in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA:
You reading this, be ready for all the other photos I took yesterday, as the sun was finally ready to appear after my rainy vacation week.
I, writing this, be ready to tell you, reading this, that
- yesterday was my best Mother’s Day ever and
- I’m ready to go back to work.

I had the pleasure of meeting William Stafford a short time before he passed away. I wasn’t prepared for how charming and quietly funny he was.
As a Boy Scout I was told to always be prepared, but, in spite of Tom Lehrer’s wisdom on that subject, I’m still frequently unprepared for life’s surprises. And I like it that way.
