Day 582: Cool

“Cool” is a word I use, almost every day.  “Cool” is very high praise, from me.

As I wrote about here, I remember being 7 years old and suddenly  being aware of how cool I was, in my own unique way.  Then, as I dealt with illness, multiple  hospitalizations, and adolescence, I lost  touch with my own coolness.

However, whenever I heard cool music, I would move cool and feel cool, during that time.

Here are some examples of what I would classify as  “cool music.”:

(coolness found here, on YouTube) (and in a previous post, here)

Listening to cool music helps me feel cooler. Even when I feel awkward, down, out of sorts, out of place, or uncool in any way, cool music is a great cure for all that.  When I’m listening to cool music, no matter what’s going on, I feel cool.  I walk cool. I talk cool. Hey!  I am cool.

Let me check in with you, right now, to see if we have this in common. When you listen to sounds you find cool, don’t you feel cooler? Even just a little bit?

And now, my cool compatriots, here are some  cool things I’ve encountered recently, in this cool world of ours.

I know that, for some of you, when I include a lot of images, the page can take a while to load. I hope you were able to stay cool, during that.

And I hope you know it is very cool to ask questions and to ask for other things you need, here and elsewhere.

In conclusion, isn’t it cool that I get to share with you sounds and sights I love?

I’m telling you, writing for you all is the coolest.

Thanks to Nelson Riddle, to Hank Mancini, to Leonard Bernstein, to cool cats everywhere, and to you, for how cool you are, naturally.

  1. What a treat … like an ice cream or blizzard 🙂
    Val x

  2. you are so cool! Love the advice from the ocean!

  3. The Ocean advice board is fantastic.I’ll have to look out for one here.
    xxx Huge Hugs xxx

    • The ocean called, and it had great advice for us! Thanks for being such a constant, helpful, giving, and huggy reader here. That is soooooo cool, David.

  4. Cool post! (you knew somebody was going to say that, right?) The Peter Gunn soundtrack is indeed super cool. There’s a “Sopranos” soundtrack CD out there with a remix of the Peter Gunn soundtrack which I really like….take a listen:

    • I was hoping somebody would say that, and you were cool enough to do it! I love the Police, so that mix is Super Cool. Thanks for introducing me to it.

  5. Great “cool” music shares! Now, the shots of the beat NY flier… well, even cool people aren’t perfect. :-).

  6. Yes, it is very cool that you get to share you sights and sounds with us!

And I think the Peter Gunn theme should play any time I walk into a room 🙂

  7. I love the theme to Peter Gunn – when I have to be brave I hear this in my head and just go do what I need to do!

Back in the day, when I was a drug dealing biker (just dawned on me that I’ve not mentioned that before – surprise! – sorry for just dropping it on you) I used to play pool and I was pretty good at it.

I hardly play anymore, but to this day, if Steppenwolf’s ‘Born to be wild’ is playing in the background, I can still shoot a pretty good game!

  8. Music is the best for plugging in to your cool supply. I often replay cool music in my head when I’m out and about – keeps those anxiety levels down.

    • I am with you all the way with this, Annabelle. From now on, when I am out and about hearing cool music, I will know I am not alone.

  9. Miranda Stone

I’m glad you’re back in touch with your coolness, because you are most definitely cool. Cool? 😉

  10. I think you’re cool, too, Ann. I like that we can still use the world cool and not feel uncool. Generations try to change the labels. Neat before cool. Boss. Hip. Probably 20 more have come and gone. And I’m cool with that! Let’s cool our heels and listen to cool music. I’m on lunch break. I just heard some Michael Jackson, and it was cool. I feel like some Steely Dan, though. That would be so cool it would be hot!

    • What is especially cool about this comment for me, Mark, is that I already picked out the tune I want to use in tomorrow’s post and it’s … Steely Dan! Isn’t that just neat, keen, boss, awesome, bad, freaky, and the best?

      • Yes, Ann, the best! If I didn’t know better, I might say this might be “The Royal Scam.” But I shall never accuse you of “Pretzel Logic.” So I will guess that you are talking about colleges and the song is “My Old School.”

      • The first two are perhaps my two favorite Steely Dan tunes, ever, Mark. Your third guess is in the ballpark, as you shall see.

  11. The Beat NY sign…Cool!
I HEART music – can’t live without it.
Right now I’m listening to some old time Mexican tunes.
My fave is accordion music. So – yes – I HEART polkas. LOL
    Yep- I’m cool. 😀
    At least – I like to think so… 😉

West Side Story is still cool. I saw that movie more times than any other. Thanks.

  13. You are always very cool, Ann. It’s so cool that you have this blog!

Do you know what else I think is cool? Doing things just for the fun of it. Here are Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen singing I Saw Her Standing There. Not exactly spring chickens, it is an odd choice for them to be singing about a seventeen year old — but they just have a ball. That is very cool to me.

I hope that this song makes you feel even cooler.

    • Yes, joy and connection are the coolest. I love this clip! Thanks for making me — and today’s post — even cooler.
