Yesterday, I posted a video of Frank Sinatra singing “What’s New?”
Today, I’m posting a video of Mel Brooks singing a song about anxiety, in the style of Frank Sinatra.
(found on YouTube here)
Why?
Well, I think it’s about time I wrote a post about anxiety. Don’t you agree?
Yesterday, anxiety was definitely a theme, in several ways. For example:
- I did a therapy group last evening, where we focused on anxiety.
- Ten minutes before we started the group, I realized I had left my bag — containing my monetary “must-haves” — on the sidewalk of one of the busiest streets in Boston.
- Twenty minutes after we ended the group, I realized I had conducted the entire group with enough food stuck in my teeth to resemble some sort of dental salad bar.
Eeeek!!!
Here’s some good news:
- The group members said they felt markedly less anxious by the end of our time together.
- When I went to retrieve my bag, it was still there.
- At least we know I’m taking good-enough care of myself to eat some friggin’ thing, in the time between the two consecutive groups I facilitate on Thursdays.
I don’t have any photos of the above, but I can show you these, taken yesterday after dark (a time that heightens anxiety in many people):
And while the scare-chemical of adrenaline was still hanging around for me while I was snapping those shots above, I felt safe enough last night. No anxiety — high or low — for me.
Unlike what Mel Brooks sings, regarding him vs. anxiety, I win!
Let’s celebrate that with another song, on this Friday morning. Here’s Robert Cray, with some bluesy advice:
Thanks to Mel Brooks, Robert Cray, those who sing about anxiety in any way, groups (of all kinds) that help each other let go of anxiety, and to you — of course! — for keeping me company, today.
I keep forgetting you’re in Boston. We were just there on Monday. 🙂
How was it? And thanks for letting me know you visited here, today!
It was a great day. Our niece is in from CA, so we had to do the Freedom Trail and Union Oyster House and Mike’s Pastry. (Good thing none of us is lactose intolerant, because chowder followed by cannoli might not have been the BEST idea… 😉 )
Sounds like the BEST day, though. Thanks!
It was, indeed, pretty awesome. Even the weather cooperated!
There is something about the dark, isn’t there? Sometimes the only drama in my day is waiting until it’s good and dark to walk out to check the mail box… sad isn’t it. LOL
I’m glad your purse was still there, that’s a major checkmark in the ‘maybe people in general aren’t so bad after all’ column.
I’m essentially “checking my mail” now, Melissa, and it’s almost dark where I am. I am very pleased to find this comment from you! I, like you, saw my experience as more proof that people aren’t as bad as we might think.
Oh I just love Mel Brooks. My teenage daughter and young son love his movies and songs – now we can add this gem. Thanks! And thanks for the great pictures too!
Thank you for this gem of a comment, which I loved. My regards to your daughter and your son!
Such a relief that your bag was still there!
I’ll say, Sue! I’m still feeling it. And it’s always a pleasure to see you here.
Hooray for Boston! I cannot believe your bag was still there. It is asy to understand anyone’s anxiety on a day like that.
Thanks for your empathy, Gene, and your cheery support.
Geesh Ann, I hung out with anxiety most of today… sigh..
Diana xo
Ah, yes. Anxiety does like to hang out (and make us sigh). I hope you’re feeling better now, Diana. xoxoxoxoxo
We teach our most important lessons don’t we Ann…. 🙂
When we know it, hold it, embrace it, teach it, let go of any resistance to it … then we will be ready to move through it.
If you do that when we are experiencing real concern … then you are awesome!
Thank you for your courage in putting your anxiety under the spotlight.
And how cool that all was well 🙂
Hugs
Val x
How cool is this comment, Val!! Hugs back at you, awesome one.
I guess you could say, Ann, it was in the bag the whole time! What’s a little leftover between-group teeth food between leader and participants, anyway? You had nothing to worry about. Beautiful night pictures, too.
Thanks for helping me pack up my worries in that bag, Mark, and smile, smile, smile.
Great song reference, Ann. Plus three points. 🙂
Thanks for getting me, Mark.
Def some Eek moments there. But – like how the group members felt less anxious after your time together & that your bag was still where you left it!
You made me LOL anxiety #3.
Your likes and laughter, RoSy, definitely helped me. I’ve let go of any remaining anxiety about that day, for good.
Some interesting selections here , for sure —
I especially like Robert Cray- the man can really play. 🙂
I agree with your interested selection — Robert Cray is amazing!
Another guy who plays like him is called Guitar Shorty…
if you like Bobby Cray, you’ll probably like Shorty.
Thank you for introducing me to the amazing Guitar Shorty, today!
Oh, did you get a chance to listen? I’m a big fan of his work ! 🙂
I did get the chance, and I’m very glad!
I would drive you crazy with music, if I’m not careful… but, just one more for a fellow blues lover.
this one is from a guy named Taj Mahal — “She Caught The Katy” .
No need to be careful, O Muscleheaded One. I would be crazy if NOT for music. I I love that we’ve now caught the Katy, thanks to you.
🙂 Yes, music is as important to me as sunshine…
It’s always there to keep me motivated, and keep my mind right.
But I did cheat a bit– after all, that “I Caught The Katy” song is irresistible !!!!! 😀
That is NOT my definition of cheating. That meets my criteria for help, health, and joy!
Well, then, I can’t resist one more —
— how do you feel about Bossa Nova?
Bebel Gilberto– Far From The Sea
I LOVE Bossa Nova. Thank you!
Cheers!
Smiles… Lol… At least it all turned out for the best… 🙂
As they say, all’s well that end’s well. Thanks for the visit and the smiles.
