Day 560: Wake Up

To go back to the format of yesterday’s post, “Wake Up” is

  • A simple, straight-forward title I haven’t used before in any of my previous five hundred and fifty-nine posts (although it’s appeared within titles here, here, here, and here).
  • A line from another favorite movie of mine, All of Me.

  • Something I don’t like to do to other people, including my son and my boyfriend (even when they tell me to).
  • Something I usually do myself, at least once during the night.
  • What I tend to do before 6:30 AM.
  • What I did, today, an hour later than usual, when the alarm went off.

Therefore, this will be a shorter than usual post.

What else would I like to say about “Wake Up”?

How about this?  it’s possible to wake up — in a more engaged, complete, committed, and whole way — to every moment.

It’s time to wake up my phone and see what photos I have for you, this rainy morning.

Well, it looks like I didn’t take any pictures after yesterday’s post, which is  quite unusual. Perhaps I was trying to focus on each moment, without my phone.

Here’s my most recent photo, which appeared in yesterday’s post:

That’s NOT a good photo for today’s post, because

  • That helps people do the OPPOSITE of wake up and
  • I didn’t wear that last night.

Let’s see if I have a recent photo, not previously shown, that would help wake up this post.

Ooops!  Look at the time! Gotta run to work.

Thanks to Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin, Carl Reiner, and everybody else involved in the making of All of Me, to The Madrona Tree restaurant in Arlington Massachusetts, to all those everywhere doing their best to wake up now, and to you — of course! — for helping wake up my day.

  1. Lol, good post! Especially considering you just woke up. 🙂

  2. Such a heartfelt and enjoyable read, Ann! 🙂 Wishing you a peaceful and “All-In” kind of Monday! Thank you for putting a smile on my face!!

    🙂 Allison

  3. Over sleeping sets an awful tone for the rest of my day. How did you fare?
    Diana xo

    • Actually, I usually under-sleep, by waking up way before my alarm. And while I am not used to being woken up by my alarm, as I was this morning, so far I am sufficiently awake (as of mid-day) and feeling fine. Thanks for the considerate question, Diana.

  4. An “All of Me” fan? Yet another reason to like you!

  5. Hope you had a great day after this wake up!

  6. You made me laugh, Ann, and for that I really thank you. Great post! Love, Amy

  7. I woke up 3 minutes before my alarm today… which is a tiny miracle. I also woke up 5 times in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom because I have no self-control and ate half a watermelon after dinner last night. Neither of those statements are exaggerated in the least bit.

  8. In this life, I may have “100 reasons to cry”, but this quote reminds me I can create a 1000 reasons to smile.” Thank you, Ann Koplow and Miles Roderick. Thank you for sharing.

  9. All the things I must learn, Ann. New jobs can be their own kind of wake up call!

    • Absolutely, Mark. And whenever you’re able to visit here, that wakes me up, in a wonderful way.

      • Yes, I will do that at all different times now, Ann! I posted my movie review with link at lunch time because I had written it and I had to do was paste the line from the New Times site. I have to learn how to be trick and use my seconds wisely.

      • Yes, Mark, balancing blogging and working is quite tricky.

  10. And a title that snapped me to attention!

  11. Gene Phillips

Being a very early riser, I am also sometimes in charge of making sure Sayoko wakes up even though she does it perfectly well when I am not around. It is a sort of ritual of caring, I think.
